Public bug reported:

After the updates on March 27th, the Unity Desktop is broken. Sometimes
I get no desktop elements at all and all I can do is start a terminal
with the keyboard shortcut, other times the Unity sidebar stays up all
the time (on both monitors), taking up screen space. It's a big step
back from a pretty good beta experience so far.
