I am experiencing this problem after upgrading the kernel:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ uname -a
Linux raven 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Wed May 23 01:46:23 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

My system is an HP compaq nx5000 laptop, using the Intel ICH4 chipset.
It has a "mute" button, which is constantly lit with the new kernel,
indicating that something is muted. I can't unmute this something,
neither with the button nor with any ALSA mixer. Furthermore, the button
is lit even if everything is unmuted according to the ALSA mixer. The
button lights up sometime during the boot process.
