Providing a remotely accurate time estimate is hard.  Providing a
terrible estimate shouldn't be too difficult, and I think would be a
significant improvement.

I think the first step was actually a ~3 hour read test.  It would've
been nice if it was clear at the time that it was just a read test, and
cancelling wouldn't have broken anything.
