The output of sudo lsusb before the USB drive is inserted, and also shortly after inserting it, might be useful. Also the output of sudo dmesg |tail -30 after inserting the drive. My thinking here is to see if we can find out whether Lubuntu is "seeing" the drive and asking pcmanfm to do its thing, or "seeing" it but not doing anything to mount it, or whether it simply never sees it at all. If you are comfortable with this stuff, and lsusb does show the device being "seen", you could also try manually mounting the filesystem on the device and reported whether or not that is successful.
