Strange. I'm using ubuntu precise (vim 7.3.429) and after entering "gvim" the program still takes very long to load. The workaround described in http://tots.1o24.org/gvim-problems-after-upgrading-to-ubuntu-11-10-oneiric-ocelot/ works fine.
