Here's a hint, what could have gone wrong when updating to kernel 2.6.20-16: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=457328&page=3 They say, that it's the missing linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-16 that causes atheros to disappear. I really don't have linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-16 installed, but unfortunately I can't find them in Adept.
