Public bug reported: When I boot in Kubuntu 11.10, the graphic interface for logging in does not appear. Instead I am presented with the text login. After I log in, I try to do (as root):
service kdm restart but the problem remains, no graphic interface. Then, I have to stop kdm with: service kdm stop and then start the X server with startx The graphic interface appears (the KDE desktop) and I can work normally. However everything in KDE runs as root from that point on, including firefox, etc. which is quite unsafe. Please let me know how I can fix this.
