I have tried Nicholas solution but I have very poor experience with ubuntu and have no idea how to "use" configuration. I tried pasting the code from alsa.conf that is given here inside ubuntu alsa.conf and also tried replacing it completely.
Please assist a newbie with a mute chrombuntu.
