I believe this bug is not specific to ncurses but has something to do with the keyboard generating the wrong code when the pound key is pressed. Since installing 6.06 (on a machine previously running Mandriva) my pound key generates an extra (control?) character as well as the correct pound sign. I assume it's a control character, because it doesn't actually display during typing but (for example) DOES appear if I use the key when editing a web page (example at http://home.beermad.org.uk/keyproblem.html)
