Ok, I have some more specifics. After installing firmware-b43legacy-installer dmeg shows [ 25.866517] b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43/ucode5.fw" not found [ 25.866531] b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43-open/ucode5.fw" not found [ 25.866538] b43-phy0 ERROR: You must go to http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware and download the correct firmware for this driver version. Please carefully read all instructions on this website.
However, /lib/firmware/ contains b43legacy/ dir. For the hell of it I copied b43legacy into /lib/firmware/b43 and now dmeg complains [ 25.652066] b43-phy0 ERROR: YOUR FIRMWARE IS TOO OLD. Firmware from binary drivers older than version 4.x is unsupported. You must upgrade your firmware files. [ 25.652088] b43-phy0 ERROR: You must go to http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware and download the correct firmware for this driver version.
