Think I managed to get some debug - started my PC with dri disabled. Then stopped X server and then set debug on drm. Set dri to load in xorg.conf and and restarted X server. My PC seemed to write a large kern.log and syslog - I could hear the disc a couple of times during black screen - attached in zip file.
