Please ignore my previous message: it does not work as it should with
kernel 2.6.20-16 either.

In fact, it now takes 45 minutes to boot and sometimes, there are drive
icons missing on the desktop.

Thus I followed the suggestion of bug# 103410 and added the word
'irqpoll' to the bootoptions of the kernel. Now it boots in few minutes,
but the syslog is filled again repeatedly with messages. Here is a
sample:
