That error message helps indeed. It lets us know that the locale
definition file /usr/share/i18n/locales/it_CH is missing. You should be
able to get it and have the it_CH.UTF-8 locale generated by running this
command:

  sudo apt-get --reinstall install locales

After that you should be able to select it_CH on language-selector's
"Regional formats" tab.

So the still unanswered question is *how* the it_CH locale definition
file was removed. If you can think of anything you did that might
explain it, please let us know. Otherwise I guess we'd better wait and
see if other users encounter the same problem.
