Sorry for the late reply, side-tracked. "Problem" is that if I do that the card is powered off. So VirtualBox can only find the reader but --as the card is not powered on in the host-- it reports: "Reader found but no card inserted".
However this seems to be an issue with the underlying host OS (i.e. Ubuntu 11.10) -- i.e. it is not powering on the card up when the USB device is inserted in the host. Only pcscd is running it does that (or pcsc_scan by spawning a pcscd). So, the question is: Can I have the device powered up even when pcscd is _not_ running e.g. a way (via pcsc) to power on the card and leave it that way ? Other method ?
