Yep, understood.  In that case, maybe imaging the disk that can reproduce
this problem, and stashing the image off somewhere (it should compress well)
and then wiping it would be fastest?

Oh, I'm absolutely certain that this is a genuine bug.  I'm merely saying
that the trigger for it is probably a "dirty" disk that's somehow ended up
with a software RAID signature on it, and not an issue that's fundamental to
the hardware + installer.  So if this is really blocking you, it should be
possible to work around it by wiping the disk.
