I don't think so. The problems you experience are pretty depending on the implementation of the chipset driver. All references to other bugs are referring to either madwifi, ndiswrapper or bcm43xx, which have nothing to do with the problem you describe.
I rather suspect the firmware you are using being problematic. Are you able to associate without wpa_supplicant using iwconfig only?
