user does not a explicit "save as..."").This behavior seems not to affect only TB but also any other mozilla derivate. However all the requests about changing this thunderbird behavior are marked as dup of the above bug at bugzilla (e.g. [2] "Thunderbird Bug: Save attachments as read-only when opened"). There is a proposed patch dated from 2007-02-04.
