Thank you for your patch! While the patch applies fine against the new 0.44-3, comments in the upstream bug seem to indicate that something else needs to be done with the patch and as such, I am going to NAK this patch for now.
I suggest working with upstream to get a patch which they accept. At that point we can pull it into Ubuntu. Alternatively, you could try to get this into Debian-- if the Debian developer responsible for ical finds it acceptable, we can then sync it into Ubuntu. If you pursue the Debian route, please link the Debian bug to this report.
