** Description changed: There is about a couple of months that I am experiencing kernel freezes when a machine gets under some stress, like building a kernel from source (not always though) . I have reported one of these issues +bug/909103 Quite often the freezes result in different call traces, where I see the following message INFO: task Xorg/compiz blocked for more than 120 seconds. "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message The display becomes locked on all terminals, vt1-7. An ssh login is possible though, I try killing gdm process from there. It does not bring my display back though. I subsequently reboot. Quite few similar problems of locked process have been reported before where some people would get their machines unlocked after a few minutes. I see it on a number of kernel versions 2.8 and 3.0, both generic and - custom. I suspect have been suspecting the radeon driver and tried to - revert all the commits between versions 3.0.14 and 3.0.17, I still - experience the bug. I was compiling the new 3.0.18 and will be testing - it. + custom. I've been suspecting the radeon driver for awhile and trying to + revert all radeon commits between versions 3.0.14 and 3.0.17, however + the issue did not go away and I still experience the bug.
