I got this error upgrading as well. Error files in /var/log/mysql were empty. 
The problem seems to be the line
    /lib/init/apparmor-profile-load usr.sbin.mysqld
in the startup script /etc/init/mysql.conf

since when I run it manually:
root@brixton:/root# /lib/init/apparmor-profile-load usr.sbin.mysqld
bash: /lib/init/apparmor-profile-load: No such file or directory

After commenting out this line, apt-get -f install continues as
expected.
