I think a sync would be enough. I currently have jabref installed from
the debian unstable package. I downloaded the debian source package and
rebuilt it on my kubuntu feisty machine. It works without a problem.

The only potential problem might be debian bug 389068: FTBFS: package
does use included precompiled libraries for build
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=389068). The debian
maintainer is working on packaging these libraries for debian, but the
work is not yet finished. If this is also a problem for inclusion in
ubuntu, I would be happy to cooperate with the debian maintainer to
solve this issue.
