** Description changed:

- Ubuntu 7.10 using gnome
+ Ubuntu 7.04 using gnome
  grep (GNU grep) 2.5.1

  Note: I did not test with any other variation of the command, I simply
  stuck to the command that caused the problem (even if the command is not
  proper). Following the steps below I can replicate the problem every
  time.

  1) From a clean reboot I start a terminal window in gnome and enter the
  command...

  time sudo grep -r 'en_US.UTF-8' /

  2) This causes what looks like a frozen terminal window (probably just
searching away)..
  <PROMPT$>
  Password:
  grep: /lib/udev/devices/kmem: Bad address
  Binary file /lib/udev/devices/core matches
  grep: /lib/udev/devices/ppp: No such device or address
  grep: /lib/udev/devices/net/tun: File descriptor in bad state
  <CURSOR BLINKING HERE>

  3) I close out of the terminal window by clicking upper right "X" (not
  the best idea but i got impatient ..) .

  4) I reopen a terminal window and input the command from above again.

  Now the cursor instead of sitting there blinking it scrolls down
  endlessly.

  5) Terminal windows start popping up everywhere and i'm forced to do a
  hard reboot.
