I haven't had this problem anymore, since I changed the key combo for
Group Shift/Lock behavior to Ctrl+Ctrl (I regularly switch between EN
and DE layouts). Now, Ctrl+Shift+(whatever) works fine. However, if I
add Ctrl+Shift to the Group Shift menu, the problem returns (output
below). It essentially seems to be the case that the Group Shift steals
Ctrl+Shift from executing as part of a longer command. This was the case
on Dapper, Edgy, and now Feisty. Great distro, though.

thanks
dennis

Here is the output from "xprop -root | grep XKB":
_XKB_RULES_NAMES_BACKUP(STRING) = "xorg", "pc104", "us", "",
"lv3:ralt_switch"
_XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = "xorg", "pc104", "us,de", ",",
"lv3:ralt_switch,grp:ctrls_toggle,grp:ctrl_shift_toggle"

and from "gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd":
  layouts = [us,de]
  model =
  options = [lv3 lv3:ralt_switch,grp     grp:ctrls_toggle,grp
grp:ctrl_shift_toggle]
  overrideSettings = true
