I've had the same problem for some time - the scanner makes a terrible noise and is stuck in the middle instead of going back to it's "starting position". I tried downloading the drivers from Canon and the software but still the problem was there, but I've been certain the scanner wasn't broken and some setting needed adjusting.
Today I fixed my scanner by going to my CONTROL PANEL (PC - VISTA) and going to "Scanners & Cameras" tab. A window box pops up and is supposed to show all scanners and camera connected to my computer. It was empty, so I clicked on the add device and it added my cannon scanner and immediately the scanner moved the bar to its starting position and I was able to scan again just fine. I had the scanner plugged in at the time I hit the add device button. Hope this helps others. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/40682 Title: My scanner, a Canon CanoScan LIDE 20, makes grinding noise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xsane/+bug/40682/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
