At least from Oneiric on we have multi-arch support, meaning that in a 64-bit environment most libraries are available in both 64-bit and 32-bit version, allowing to install and run 32-bit packages. If they do not install straigh away, try to use
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture <package> if there are still missing dependencies on 32-bit libraries, report these as bugs (one bug report per library) as they need to get appropriately packaged to support multi-arch.
