Sounds like a problem with I/O, which I noticed a long time ago in 11.04. Unity and/or compiz seems to be severely affected by a busy disk. I agree it makes no sense -- why should the GUI be affected by disk activity at all... ? The bug description only mentions an increase of 200MB. While that's large, it shouldn't cause a huge change in the amount of swapping, unless caused by other processes.
I think I saw someone had logged a bug for this elsewhere. Don't know the ID. Chauncellor, can you confirm your problem is linked to the amount of disk/swap activity? If not then it should be discussed in a different bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/888039 Title: Gradual degradation in desktop performance.
