Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. The upgrade failed because the system was unable to stop the running mysqls.
Could you do sudo service mysql stop then do 'ps -ef | grep mysql' and see whether mysql is still running? If it is not, then re-try the update. Otherwise, please show us the result of both the 'service stop' and 'ps -ef' commands. ** Changed in: mysql-dfsg-5.1 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: mysql-dfsg-5.1 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/903771 Title: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.10 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-dfsg-5.1/+bug/903771/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
