Public bug reported: Some packages are immediately flagged as broken when clicked to Mark for installation. No reason is given for this. That should be a bug report in its own right...
But then, after DESELECTING the broken package, and selecting a viable package, Synaptic will refuse to install packages "because you have held a broken package." It won't be able to install new packages again until Synaptic has been closed and re-opened.
