It does suspend if I put it to suspend but pressing the supend button,
but never on idle.

Think I have found it, if downgrading to edgy version it works fine. So I did 
reinstall the version from feisty 7.04
And had a look at the gconf-editor and found a key:

/apps/gnome-power-manager/action_battery_sleep_type
But this key is set to *Nothing* meaning it will never to to sleep when it's on 
battery
The type of sleeping that should be performed when the computer is inactive. 
Possible values are "hibernate", "suspend" and "nothing".

/apps/gnome-power-manager/action_ac_sleep_type
This key is set to *suspend*
