Ok, I really think that the problem occurs because your system is trying to read an encrypted DVD but you don't have the required libdvdcss3 package installed. I had the same problem and after I installed that package, everything worked fine. Have you tried using a non-encrypted DVD? Someone who is currently experiencing this problem should try using a self-burned DVD to test if this is indeed the cause of the problem. Further, try installing the libdvdcss3 package and post here if the issue is resolved or if it still persists. If we can isolate it to that problem, a fix should be forthcoming.
