I should add, if there is a way to test a grub menu.lst to find if it will certainly fail, that should be run as part of the menu.lst creation step. There are certain syntax errors, and semantic errors, which could be checked in advance.
Perhaps grub has such a facility - lilo used to - but if grub doesn't, IMO that means grub should get a bug report "cannot test for errors in grub configuration" i.e. there is no way to look before you leap for the most serious step in modifying your system, especially for non-expert users. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/902719 Title: Invalid menu.lst file was created To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/902719/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
