Rominet7777: Interesting... You are running a 386 kernel on what must be be i586 or later hardware (which CPU/motherboard do you have?). You may find you get a speed boost (or maybe just new problems) if you install linux-image-generic which should be a better match for your hardware (you will also need to install linux-restricted-modules-generic ). Is there any change?
