Thanks again for checking back. That alone impresses me. I'm afraid that reporting this as a bug was my first mistake. I'm not technically competent to answer your questions. I never saw a "log file" during my boot attempts, for example.
I can say this: the third computer I tried did successfully load and install from the first CD I made. So I suspect the problem is simple incompatibility with the two older (6-7 years old) computers. So far, I like UBUNTU, by the way. Thanks again, and please log my report as cleared. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joseph Salisbury" <joseph.salisb...@canonical.com> To: raabro...@comcast.net Sent: Wednesday, November 30, 2011 10:03:27 AM Subject: [Bug 894131] Re: Problem booting 11.10 LiveCD If you still have this issue, can you follow the "Boot options" instructions on the following wiki to enable additional output on boot: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelBoot As mentioned on the wiki, it would be great if you can attach a log file which may have captured any messages you see. If you are unable to capture a log file, a digital photo will work just as well. As a last resort you can even copy messages down by hand. ** Tags added: bug-stop-nagging ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/894131 Title: Problem booting 11.10 LiveCD Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I created a DVD for Ubuntu 11.1 using InfraRecorder (twice!) During reboot, I get a brief flash screen and then the screen goes black and the system hangs up. No mouse pointer, no image and not even the DVD will eject. The system hangs up while booting from a CD, DVD or from a USB stick. I never get any kind of splash screen, except for a brief view of a maroonish background with two icons at the bottom. It isn't there long enough for me to see what they are. After that, a black screen (not even a mouse pointer) and nothing. I've waited as long as 20 minutes with the black screen, and there is no further activity there, and no further blinking drive lights. I then installed 11.1 to run inside Windows from the Wubi. exe screen. On reboot, the same thing happens. This is an older machine running WXP(SP3) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/894131/+subscriptions -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/894131 Title: Problem booting 11.10 LiveCD To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/894131/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
