This sounds roughly similar to this debian bug, which is fixed as of xserver
1.3:

If you could, please verify it is fixed in gutsy. If it isn't, then
please feel free to reopen it, and attach the output from /usr/share/bug
/xserver-xorg-core/script, and we'll take a deeper look.
