I tried the various solutions in this thread, without success. With Unity 3D I experience a laggy smooth scrolling in Firefox as well (with the smoothwheel plugin), apart from the strange behaviour when moving windows. Unity 2D works fast, scrolls great in Firefox, but gives me the already old bug of video tearing when playing video. Only Gnome3 works reasonably fast without general lagginess. Pity, because I like unity3D the most in terms of appearance and productivity.
