No, gstreamer doesn't play DVD but you can use an another application
for that. I read most of the totem-gstreamer and totem-xine bug. The
gstreamer team is really reactive and the number of crashes sent by
people using xine seems to be higher. Maybe you have some
gstreamer0.10-plugins not installed. Or maybe you have running in
special cases, in which one you should report bugs so they get fixed
rather than doing random assumption of gstreamer being buggy
