Compiz does use polling to find out when it has to redraw the screen.
And it uses even more CPU when it finds out it does have to redraw the
screen. That is the code I am looking at right now.

However compiz CPU usage will be much worse if you have changed any of
the settings in comment #43. So everyone reading this, please do check
those settings.
