Hi Stephen, I tried your idea since I very much need a work around. I think you are on the right track but I'm not yet happy with your solution. The ubuntu-mono-light is the same set of ugly icons as the ambiance. The "gnome" set is much nicer but it is missing the gear at the end (the gear isn't a gear in the proper set but rather something like a monitor). If I knew where the gnome set was located, I would look and see what the set includes. My best guess is that it is pointing to a non existent png file. If I could manually insert the missing file, my guess that the work around would do the job.
