I can confirm this. I'm having the same problem on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn with java-6-sun AND java-gcj. At first eclipse did work. But after some playing I wanted a fresh install, so I decided to reinstall it. Afterwards it just gave me an error message to the log file when starting. The log file looks nearly like the one already posted. Before the reinstall I deleted every file which has to do with eclipse, which I could find. A "locate eclipse" just returned some icon files, which don't belong to eclipse, but the problem still persisted. Executing eclipse as root didn't help also.
