Not sure if this is a useful data point, but: I ended up installing xubuntu-desktop (sudo aptitude install xubuntu- desktop) and have been using xubunut/xfce for the past week. The problem did not reoccur until today (five days later).
I did the same workaround as before: closed the laptop to put it in suspend mode and then resumed. I had to unplug it from battery power to get it to go into suspend on close, but I think that's just an xfce settings detail. I'm not sure what might have caused the issue to crop up today as opposed to the preceding five days. Two difference in usage today are that I'm using abiword to view an MS Word document, and I have the XFCE file browser (Thunar) open. ** Attachment added: "snapshot of top output" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/886887/+attachment/2593557/+files/top_capture_ubuntuscreenfreeze.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/886887 Title: screen saver after going into blank screen, resumes to all-white screen, no unlock dialog To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/886887/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
