It appears that there's a problem with power control for the Ralink 5390 wireless on the HP DM1. This causes both unreliable wireless and random crashes/lockups/kernel panics of the whole machine (caps lock LED flashing).
Workaround which works well for me (HP dm1 with 11:10 oneiric) : As root, create file etc/pm/power.d/wireless containing #!/bin/sh /sbin/iwconfig wlan0 power off then chmod 755 /etc/pm/power.d/wireless then reboot. For me, it hasn't crashed since. No doubt one day this bug will be fixed and the workaround won't be needed. (There are unrelated problems with wireless and some routers causing repeated connection dropping. Selecting 20 rather than 20/40 channel bandwidth on the router may fix this. Also, the Synaptics clickpad is a problem: see https://launchpad.net/~sergio91pt/+archive/synaptics+clickpads. Be sure to untick Disable touchpad while typing and select Edge scrolling on System Settings > Mouse and touchpad > Touchpad tab. Fix all this and the dm1 works well.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/844192 Title: Freezes randomly with a flashing caps lock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/844192/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
