Errr, most of the reason Xp is still supported is due to the 'success'
of Longhorn and Vista.  Apparently Win8 is set to be just as good.  Win7
seems to have been a blip but people have learned to be wary of new
offerings from MS.

Why upgrade Ubuntu without first giving it a trial run??  LiveCd/Usb,
spare partition or Virtual Machine are all so easy in almost any
Gnu&Linux.  None of those options are easy in Windows.

Also I've not seen people install Windows to a usb-stick with any amount
of success.

Ubuntu also lacks the other features of Windows such as paranoia and
vulnerabilities.  A reluctance to deal with a malware problem or even
admit to it even after thousands or millions of users have been
affected.  Ubuntu doesn't slow down so badly and doesn't need hefty
hardware upgrades just to keep running.

Hmmm, Unity interface woes or 2 taskbars giving more info (such as the date)
and a workspace switcher.  Either way i'm happier than when i am forced into
using Windows.
Regards from
Tom :)
