I get the same problem with my T400, when I power off the optical drive in the drive slot or ultrabay: suspending fails, because udevd can't kill the cdrom_id process. If I keep my optical drive powered on all the time, suspending works fine. According to this report (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=638887), it seems to be a regression in the 3.0 kernel.
