Public bug reported: I had Ubuntu 11.10 installed and I installed compiz. I was looking through the settings and saw a dropdown that had to do with gconf. I was curious so I clicked on it. My machine froze, I had to hold the power button. When the machine came back up and I logged in only my background displayed with a menu bar (file, edit, etc). Nothing useable in the whole system, no unity. I tried getting Unity working again but no go.
So I decided in for a penny in for a pound. I logged into the GUI with root and unity displayed fine. I loaded compiz and tried the dropdown again to see if the issue would reproduce. It did. My install is now 100% hosed. Someone may want to look at this. ** Affects: compizconfig-settings-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/884587 Title: compiz freezes machine and stops Unity from loading To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compizconfig-settings-manager/+bug/884587/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
