Public bug reported:

My installation sequence:
-first a fresh install of ubuntu desktop 32 bit 10.04.3
-then lilypond
-and then texmaker.

Compiling in latex (or pdflatex) is impossible since latex cannot find any of
the needed files such as 'report.cls'.
After commenting out the following lines in /home/usr/.profile the problem was
solved:
# path naar tex en musixtex
TEXINPUTS=".:$HOME/.texmf-var/tex//"
MFINPUTS=".:$HOME/.texmf-var/fonts//"
export TEXINPUTS MFINPUTS

So ther is a misconfiguration in the automatic installprocedure.
