Thanks. tried that have checked hard disk and memory all ok. this install failed. the problem started when I tried to upgrade to 10.10. the result of the attempted install of libreoffice-impress is attached. the list file is no longer present.
is there an easy way to revert back to 10.04? If you get similar error messages with other packages, you have a serious problem, you might want to check your harddisk (or your memory) if so many files are corrupted.
