But I just have one question about this patch: why did you remove this menubar 
only on non ubuntu* sessions?
       + if (!g_str_has_prefix(g_getenv("DESKTOP_SESSION"), "ubuntu"))

Because it's also possible to disable the Unity Compiz plugin on an
'ubuntu' session and after that we will have this (ugly) menu on top of
the desktop.
