Actually I didn't edit anything. I just updated xserver-xorg-core and when I rebooted the xserver fails to start. It also will not start with startx.
I tried using a working xorg.conf from a livecd (Mepis) but that did not solve the problem. I do not even get a login, just a notice that the server isn't working and an offer for me to fix it.
