I would consider the boot & log into the desktop solved by using "Ubuntu 11.10 alternative" release,
however, there are still basic instabilities & intermittent, random problems with 11.10: (by the way "Synaptic Package Manager" crashes every time, & makes repairing, sorting dependencies, install & uninstall very difficult, because the "Ubuntu Software Center" is a clumsy attempt to replace the best software manager of all of linux time, that is the"Synaptic Package Manager") If I install software that oneiric (more likely Unity) does not like, Unity folds, & one is left with nautilus, windows headers are gone, log out, restart options are gone as well. there is no retrace or apport to make a report. <Ctrl><Alt><Del> is the only option available, unless one has cairo-dock installed or some program like it. I have already had to reinstall oneiric. I believe, that Unity is inherently unstable, worse yet, inflexible. Ubuntu has had a good history with Gnome. Unfortunately, Oneiric does not embrace Gnome 3.2 fully, it was not developed for Unity to ride upon, the fact is, that these two, Gnome & Unity, oppose each other. Out of this unequal yoke come all these problems! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/873776 Title: after Ubuntu 11.10 release install will not log or boot into desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/873776/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
