IPTables is blocking the GRE protocol. When i install firestarter and add the external IP address of the server I want to connect to and also add the internal ip address of the server (which I should be able to connect to after a successfull VPN connection) to firestarter as that those addresses are allowed to connect to my machine, then I get this. I think that Network Manager PPTP Plugin is not adding a route or not adding the appropriate rules to iptables to allow any connection through the vpn tunnel. I am however not experienced enough with iptables to check this and potentially fix this with a script.
